Farsta
Race Notes
The Farsta is a one person relay using forking. Each person runs three loops. At the end of each loop you will switch to the map for the next loop. A forking tip: if you come to a control that you have previously been to, it is likely this is a forking point and so if you are following it will be time to follow someone else perhaps. No separate control descriptions; they are only on the map.
There is no water at the start or on the course. You may want to bring a water bottle with you to the start/finish. Be sure to clearly identify your bottle

Barebones 2013 finishes on one of the world's most fantastic orienteering maps. Glorious views, incredible contour detail, and fabulous open running combine to make this a true test of technical navigation at high speed. A race that will bring a smile to your face!
Directions
On Highway 1A travel about 1.5km south from the intersection with Highway 1X and turn right toward the Francis Cooke landfill. We have permission to park on the side of the landfill access road (the landfill is closed on Sunday). Park economically - and be VERY carefully pulling off the highway. Toilets are t the parking. About 500m walk to the start/finish arena.

Course Planner Notes
- The map scale for all courses is 1:7,500 ISOM, with 5m contours, in a detailed area at the south end of the Mt Laurie map.
- Be aware that there are some vegetation and path changes since the last update of the Mt Laurie map.
- There will be lots of controls in a relatively small area – so check your codes and control descriptions!!
- There will be no separate control descriptions – just on the map
- Courses 1&2 are approx. 1.2km and are harder than an equivalent course in the city. There is a flagged leg on course 1, and some of the other legs will have pin flags. If your little orienteers cannot navigate except by paths or man-made features, it would be good to shadow them! Courses 1&2 will mass start together at 10am.
- The Farsta courses will all start at 10:30. You will line up behind the maps which will be on the ground. At the start, pick up your map bag and turn it over. There are two smaller maps on one side of the page and one larger map on the reverse side. Your first leg is the one with the big number ‘1’ in the bottom right corner. DO do that one first! At the end of the first leg, you will come back through the Start/Finish area (no punch) and start leg ‘2’. Then back through the Start/Finish again (no punch) and flip your map to find leg ‘3’. At the end of leg ‘3’ make sure you punch the Finish punch and proceed to download.
- Bring your own water bottle and leave it in the Start/Finish area!
- The longer Farsta is three loops of approx. 2km each. This is for M&W Elite, Expert and Youth Plus.
- The shorter Farsta is three loops of approx. 1.2k each. It is intermediate level and for Advanced, Youth, Intermediate and Sport. On this course you need to be able to read contours and also follow bearings.
- There are common controls between the two Farstas, possibly even common legs!
- The emergency phone number is printed on all maps. Safety bearing is EAST to the highway. Max time on course is 3 hours.
- Have fun – it’s going to be crazy ;-)
